I really enjoyed this one. Very lighthearted and fun. Like a Hallmark movie. 3 romantic storylines in one without being too explicit. It also conveyed so many other topics like family adjustments, finding yourself, and ocean conservancy. It is also good to know, that even if things are not working out right now, there is no age limit to finding love.

Nancy Thayer is another author who writes about life in Nantucket and has become a favourite of mine. In her latest book, Girls of Summer, she tells the story of three women. Lisa is a divorced woman and single mother who has been without a man in her life since her husband left her many years ago. After Lisa experiences a structural issue in her heritage home, she hires Mack as the contractor needed to renovate her home. Mack is a widower who also has been alone for many years. The attraction felt between the two is instant.

Lisa is surprised when her two children arrive home for the summer. Theo has returned from the west coast in order to heal from a surfing injury. Juliet has returned from Cambridge following a recent break up. Mack’s daughter Beth is also home after completing college. Beth and Theo have had a long-standing mutual attraction.

Will the six characters in this book find what they’re looking for in Nantucket?

I enjoyed this book, however it is not my favourite from this author. It just felt a little too predictable for me and unrealistic at times. For example, after a storm hits Nantucket and one character nearly dies by drowning. Shortly thereafter, she joins the other five in walking over to a local restaurant for dinner. Perhaps staying home to rest or being taken to a doctor for a once over might have been more in line with what I would expect. Having said that, the story is sweet and a feel good type of book. The characters were all likeable and the story flowed.
I used an Audible credit for this audiobook. Kate Rudd gives a good performance providing the narration.

A very sweet story about a living family and I'm a sucker for books set in beach towns!

Nancy Thayer has a knack for writing great "beach reads." When Girls of Summer showed up on NetGalley, I added it to my to-read list. The story is about the love stories between 6 people: Lisa and Mack, Theo (Lisa's son) and Beth (Mack's daughter), and Juliet (Lisa's daughter) and Ryder (Beth's boss). While there wasn't a lot of depth in the characters, this was just what I needed to finish off the school year and welcome in the summer away from elearning!

Thanks to Netgalley for a review copy of this book.
Lisa Hudson is a divorcee with two adult children of her own named Juliet and Theo. The three of them all get love stories and romance ensues on Nantucket. Lisa is taken with her carpenter, Mack Whitney, despite the fact that she is ten years older than he. Juliet meets newcomer Ryder Hastings who is looking for a new adventure, and Theo falls for Mack's daughter Beth, but will it work out for everyone involved?

Nancy Thayer has given exactly what you would want in a summer read. It is light and fun and full of love. There is a little bit of drama to keep you intrigued. This book is perfect to read on the beach or by the pool. The characters are likable but could certainly be a little more developed although that didn't take away from the enjoyability of the story one bit. If you want a fun summer read or if you wish you were spending your summer in Nantucket, grab this one on your way to the beach!

An early copy of this book was made available to me by the publisher through netgalley. This is my honest review.

Girls of Summer was a heart warming family novel. I don't usually read this genre and I am now a fan of Nancy Thayer. The title Girls of Summer and the cover art is a bit misleading. Girls of Summer is about a woman named Lisa and her children. Most of the book is centered around her early 20's age children who come back home to Nantucket. When I read the description of this book, I almost gave it to my grandmother to read but I am extremely pleased that I did not. This is not a book about elderly women hanging out in the summer. Lisa is a single mother raising Juliet and Theo. Both gorgeous children who come back home and find love in the most unusual ways. Lisa unexpected finds a new love as well. Something she has not been looking for since her husband left. Lisa was bewitched by Erich, the father of her children. She had it all when they were together. She felt like he was her prince when they first met and Lisa was all to happy to do his house cleaning, cooking and laundry to show how much she loved him. Erich was a wealthy businessman in D.C. working at his fathers bank. When Juliet and Theo were nine and eleven it became evident that Erich saw Lisa as a disappointment as a wife. He thought she had no ambition and thought they were on separate pages, so they split. The rest of the book is about Lisa finding her new life back home in Nantucket. Her children now grown, come home just as Lisa finds a new love for the first time since her husband left all those years ago. This is a wonderfully done family, heartwarming story. I am a new Nancy Thayer reader and I can now say I am obsessed with her books.
