This novel managed to keep me on the edge of my seat even despite the fact that I already had a pretty complete knowledge of the plot as a result of its screen adaptations. This was the first of Harris' novels that I've read, and I was honestly surprised by the borderline lyricism that his prose achieves at times - it's gritty and beautiful at the same time. I don't think I've read anything else that manages to achieve this level of suspense.
