This book was... Not great. I put it down three times and only finished it because it was a class assignment. Chappie started out a whiner who ran away from home because he was "being unfairly treated." He claimed there was no respect given but offering no respect himself. While we do not learn until later in the book that Chappie was possibly molested by his stepfather, it became difficult to sympathize with him.
There was only one person with which Chappie did the right thing for a selfless reason- Froggie. He was genuinely concerned for her safety and went out of his way to get her back home. It was that moment he showed the potential to be an anti-hero, but he back slid after meeting his father and his girlfriend.
Perhaps it is a different experience for an angsty teenager than it is as an adult.
IT SHOULD ALSO HAVE A DISCLAIMER OR TRIGGER WARNING FOR THOSE OF US THAT HAVE BEEN IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS.
