Really lovely poetry collection! Lucille Clifton’s poems are simple but truthful and powerful. I wish I had read these in a class or something so I could truly understand their impact and context. Would highly recommend this moving collection!

I plan to work through these masterful works slowly and over time in the future. They are meant to be mulled over and considered rather than rushed through.

I have been crying. Crying from the rawness, the pain, the loneliness, the rage. I'd heard the name Lucille Clifton but had never thought to pick up her work until now and now my heart is hurting. Her poems are a blessing and an accusation, and an exhortation to stay strong.
