I am SO glad Hachimitsu got so much screen time this volume! She and Inuzaka are my fave side characters and both got to shine, but Hachimitsu's development was super relatable and cool. Izumi and Shikimori were amazing as well, but I'm glad that this volume focused more on the side characters, not only giving them time to shine but some backstory and development. While Kamiya is my least fave side character at the moment, her interactions with Nekozaki are cool and I love how Nekozaki's extrovertedness and open mindedness compliment Kamiya's more reserved and introverted personality. Nothing original, mind you, but it's done well and that's all that matters to me.
Another great volume, so mad at that cliffhanger, can't wait for the next volume.

There’s less of our love birds being cute together in Volume 5 of “Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie”, but a larger focus on the cast as a whole does offer a nice break and some other charming dynamics. Hachimitsu is an excellent and deeply relatable character (I also hate running with a passion and believe lying down in a cool room to be the height of hanging out). And a cliffhanger! Haven’t had one of those since Volume 1. Solid writing carries an unusual volume and makes me eager for the next one.

Probably my favorite volume so far as it has the least romance/thirst and focuses more on friendship and the non-romantic relationships with the side characters.

There is some really great development for the side characters in this volume, which is always great to see!
These developments still don't take any time away from seeing how cool shikimori is as well as how much her and Izumi love each other, such a sweet series!
