I was really hoping I'd enjoy this collection more. Shawshank and The Body were both really good, but for once, the movies were better than the books.

Different Seasons by Stephen King

This collection of short stories contained four, actually quite long stories including the original story of The Shawshank Redemption and The Body, which has since been adapted into Stand By Me.
It's a great collection, particularly The Body and Apt Pupil, a story about a boy's obsession with his neighbour's dark secret. As always King's quality of writing is excellent.

This was part of a short story collection. I already knew and loved the story of the Shawshank Redemption and enjoyed the book just as much. This was one of the cases where it pays to read the book first as when reading I didn't feel the sympathy or love for the characters that I did while watching the film.

Four and a half.

It would be a solid five stars were it not for The Breathing Method. But Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, and The Body are all King classics.

Two really great stories (Shawshank and The Body A.K.A Stand By Me) and two so-so stories (Apt. Pupil and The Breathing Method). Still, its King during his peak and even though Apt. Pupil drags while The Breathing Method takes forever to get going, they're interesting stories that few authors could actually pull off the way King does.

A wonderful collection of novellas. When King doesn't have the luxury of 1000+ pages that's where he writes the best. I read a lot of King when I was a teenager and his shorter books are my favourites.

The story that stands out to me the most is The Body. I feel like Stephen King captures childhood so well. I've grown to love his super ling ramblings because it paints such a detail picture of the story with almost no room for ambiguity. The Body is so damn spooky and feels so realistic.
