Notes from longer poems:

“Send me your distractions. Your pity laugh, the auburn couch, the way you pull your hair
into tiny thimbles of grief.
I will take your conversations too — the one
you
had with your mother on a Saturday. Or every
time you stood inside a door to weep.

The best thanks is the sound of your heart beating. Your hands soaring above the waves”

“To find the ones who say: ‘I am not afraid of sitting in the dark with you’”

“Revision is necessary. The compulsory bloom.
When you emerge with crystals in one hand,
revenge in the other, remember the humble barn swallow who returns in the spring. If not for her markings, another bird entirely.”

Maybe that I am not a mother. Maybe just some different perspective on life. Not that the poetry collection did not seem good, it just didn't resonate with me so much.

I really liked a few of these poems. But overall it seems to be meant for a woman at a different stage j. Life than I am. So most of them I couldn’t really connect with.

I have had a hard time getting into books lately, particularly poetry books. This masterpiece by Kate Baer, however, had me locked in from the moment I opened it. Exquisite, deeply emotional and honest. In three parts, we see three stages of life, and each is just as raw as the others. Must read.
