A really great quick read. I would’ve liked a little more of an ending but I can imagine what happens next. I highly recommend.

Just so so. A woman is murdered by her husband sho believes she knows the illegal activity he is involved in. She does not drown, but lives. She and some co-conspirators play with the husbands mind. Sex is vital to the husbands ego and self-esteem.

I traded a few books with my assistant principal after we discovered we are both avid readers. She told me hers were trashy, but good. I get my trashy books on loan from the library so she got some literary fiction in exchange. This was the perfect read for six months in to an interminable global pandemic. It’s a ridiculously silly story which, after I read the last page where all the loose ends are neatly tidied up, made me think of a Shakespearean comedy like Twelfth Night or even The Tempest. The latter because there’s an island and a Caliban figure, the former because of the convoluted love interests. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but hey, Jeanette Winterson did it with The Winter’s Tale.
I was delighted with the quality of the writing, even if the plot is predictable. I’ve made any number of trips to Florida, to the Panhandle, the Keys and the Everglades. I’ve read a fair number of books set in Florida too. It’s such a quirky place that it becomes a character. I’m also reminded that I recently read another book where the heroine is pushed off a ship.
I think I’ll read some more Carl Hiaasen.

this was a really good read that starts with Chaz throwing his wife off the side of a cruise ship miles away from land.

This was my first Hiaasen book and I found it incredibly entertaining. Campy, silly, funny, a few sexy moments that ended up funny. It was a great book-on-cd for my commute to work. I plan to "read" more of Mr. Hiaasen's books that's for sure!
