The good: it's a good mystery book, it keeps you guessing, is it the patient, is it someone else, is it someone close to him? There are a few good twists and suspenseful moments.

The not so good: there are a lot of backstories, description of every single detail, memories of other times and places that have little to do with the present tense. It is nice to have some glimpses in the past but it's a different story when we find out the life of every meaningless character in the book. The other part that I was not keen on was an overall negative, dark, sombre atmosphere. And not because of what was happening, but his life in general. Yes he has a disease that is hard to cope with, but man you are in your 40s not in your 90s.

bored, author adds too many unnecessary details that just feels like rambling

4.25/5. A strong beginning to what promises to be a powerful series of thrillers. I feel for the main character (my own grandma is suffering through Parkinson's), even though he's a right prick most of the time. I seriously enjoyed this.

Perhaps this was the wrong book for me to read at the wrong time. But I just found it hard to pick up and commit to. The writing is clever, as crime books tend to be, but there was little in the story that grabbed me and forced me to keep reading. If anything, i forced myself to finish it out of stubbornness and not wanting to label a book DNF.

I loved this book, it really had me on edge and I wanted to keep reading late into the night to finish. The author has a way with storytelling, he creates characters that gets you engrossed in their story from the first page to last. This was book 1 in the series and I can’t wait to read more about Joe O’Loughlin.
