Okay, full disclosure? I didn't read what this book was about before starting it on a 6 hour drive.  Hell, I'm not sure I even read the summary when I downloaded it to my Libby shelf.  There is a REALLY good chance I was just just skimming for potentially spooky themes to read as we go into the fall season. You know, tag some books- come back to comb through them later.  Just me? Somehow I doubt that.😂

Anyway, that's how this story found me.  And why I completely thought with a title like Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts, there would be a bit more of ghost factor here.  ESPECIALLY after that prologue with Vince, who clearly could talk to ghosts.  I just, thought there would be a more active ghostly participation in this story.  Now, I know, there's still Abby.  But, the way Abby is presented makes it feel more psychological than actually other worldly.  Eventually, we get to a place where we do accept that Abby is a real ghost who Tuesday communicates with from time to time. But, I don't know, it wasn't what I was expecting.  And then, the ending...
when Abby leaves.  I guess she was holding on to Tuesday and that's why her ghost was still there but what, she took a form in those last moments to save Tuesday? Okay...but also confusing.  And, her body was never actually found so I feel like we robbed a bit of closure there. And why could Tuesday talk to Abby, and Dorry could see her through the goggles but Dorry couldn't find her mom? I guess she wasn't holding on? I don't know, I'm just so confused.

So, it's not exactly what I was expecting but it was still fucking delightful.  I mean, half way through I went and read the actual summary and it lined up way more with what was actually happening.  But, a treasure hunt? A dead man? Potential for ghosties?  Uh, yes please.

Also, I loved Tuesday.  And I loved Dex. And Dorry.  Even Archie was okay.
But also, wtf.  So did Nathaniel actually walk away from that fall or did Archie and his family "take care" of him.  Like their dad was taken care of?  I think I would have felt better knowing for sure that he died at the foot of the stairs.  Again, closure.
The characters were great and they all brought something special to the book.  The book is a cozy read.  It's exciting and fun but it's like a hug after being gone for a long time.  I really liked this one.

I got jump scared by Tuesday being a prospect researcher (bc I am one as well) but it was a lot of fun! Who knew what I needed from my mystery books was development office humor? I loved all the whimsy the story was able to have despite the material!  And loved the writing style
Twins/similar looking siblings hijinks can be boring especially when done poorly in a mystery but this twist was a lot of fun
and overall great listen!

This book started off as a 5 and unfortunately, as I got more into the story slowly became a 4 and then a 3.

I loved the quirkiness of the characters and the treasure hunt that lead Tuesday, Dorry, and Archie on a quest that ends with a slight twist. The adventure begins when the wealthy and eccentric Vincent Pryce dies and, in his will, bequests the city a treasure hunt.

I started off enjoying the mood and the characters and most of all the clues that Vincent had left. Then as the story progressed, Tuesday stated getting on my nerves and the whole Archie/Nathanial story became flat. And really, Tuesday only talks with one ghost, which bummed me out as I assumed, according to the title, she’d be talking with more than one ghost.

The ending, with the singing and the panels falling off, I really just had to roll my eyes. It felt more juvenile in nature than the rest of the book. For me, the issue was, the beginning and middle of the book was really really good, that when the climax and ending happened, it was just kind of a shrug the shoulders kind of ending.

Overall, it’s a quick read and I’d recommend it with the caveat that one should not expect a phenomenal ending.

I don't really know how I feel about this. I loved most of it but what I didn't love definitely stood out. I am going to give this four stars but I might drop this down to a 3.5 after a couple of days.

Reread Jan 2024. Well written, funny, and quirky, with an enjoyable mystery.
