Very little happened for 85% of the book, and then the ending felt rushed. I also felt like something was missing from the emotional aspect of a mother’s child going missing. Once I read the author’s note at the end, it made sense. The author does not have children. While I think you can read about and interview others about being a parent, it would be difficult to describe the emotions involved without having gone through the experience of being a parent yourself. Similarly, when authors write characters with depression but have never experienced it themselves, it comes off rather contrived. That’s how I felt reading this book. As a parent with a young kid, the thought of my child going missing is my absolute greatest fear, nothing else compares. I almost didn’t read this book because just the idea of a child being taken from their home was heart wrenching. But I had a nearly zero emotional response to every part of this book.

How is this not happened and it’s just a book?! It is literally mind blowing, so good, so well written, you cannot guess anything at all until author says that’s what’s happened and it is truly a masterpiece! I couldn’t put it down, this book is definition of page turner!
