I don't know how to rate this because on the one hand, it's smutty 1D fanfiction and I DID NOT KNOW THAT and it's got all the hallmarks of Fifty Shades and I hate it, zero stars

But on the other hand, I can't wait to watch the movie and look it's well written, even all the sex, and I got so invested in the drama and then I just ended and what? No thank you, that's heartbreaking take your 5 stars

Read if you like 1D. Read if you like fanfiction. Read if you like Fifty Shades of Grey. Especially read if you liked If This Gets Out. Read if you love a good monologue about invisible women, the double standards of age gap romances, or about the elitism of art

This isn’t technically a romance (which I suspected from the start); it’s just that it has steamy scenes, and I’m certainly here for that. (Is there a term for romance-adjacent that doesn’t actually qualify?)

This is a mostly fun read even without being a romance. I found it predictable, but not in a bad way. I also hated every single character except maybe the daughter, who seemed the only one concerned with weighing her own feelings against the feelings of others. But again, I hated them all in a way that was fun and low-stakes. The book feels quite long at points, especially since it is rather predictable, but the pacing really works to counteract that.

I can see why people enjoy this book, especially if they’re not used to reading more graphic romance. And the whole Harry Styles of it all certainly adds to the hype.
