This one just really wasn’t for me and was more unbelievable than a Hallmark movie. A novella gives little space for a deep emotional connection, but that didn’t phase Nick.

After a few hours and zero conversation other than eating pizza with her and her son and then watching a movie:
“She’s the most amazing woman I’ve ever met.”

“I want to give her all of me, including my heart.”

Her:
“I’ve never felt closer to another human—physically or emotionally.”

His cock teases a spot deep inside her that “has never before been brought to life.” And after that “life-affirming lovemaking”…
“The call to be their protector is so strong it’s nearly overwhelming. ‘You and Ty need a man of the house, and I want to be that man for you.’”

A week (two?) later, he’s giving her parenting advice in regard to her son dealing with a bully and then he proposes, since having met her he’s done with his bachelor lifestyle and wants “to be a real man with the responsibility of a family to care for.” In one breath she's telling him she's cursed (almost everyone she's loved has died) and in the next he's convinced her the curse won't touch him.

I was getting commitment anxiety reading this book.
