I wrestled with what I should rate this book for a long time. Easily one of my favourite books I’ve read this year. Clementine and Iwan are so high school sweethearts coded. Their chemistry just flew off the page!
I laughed and I cried with them. I honestly adore them both. No one gets them the way I do i fearrr.
Absolutely incredible read.

I’d first like to say that if you have not read the ‘Once Upon A Con’ series by Ashley Poston, stop reading this review, read the series, and thank me later. Poston has been a favorite of mine for several years and my friend and I always read her books together and share a very chaotic text chat as we read through each chapter. Poston’s books are unfailingly entertaining stories filled with real people having (mostly) real experiences.
The Seven Year Slip is no exception. This novel is a beautiful display of Poston’s growth as an author; offering witty banter, hilarious characters, and a wonderfully woven storyline. And for all of its classic, feel-good rom-com moments, Poston also delivers an accurately heartbreaking portrayal of grief and loss that hit a little close to home for me. I, like our main character Clementine, have also lost an aunt who was my best friend. And though it’s been ten years since that loss, Poston’s writing put into words the feelings of pain and anger you experience when you lose a loved one and brought them right to the surface. I was Clementine in those moments. That is good writing.
Filled with fun, diverse characters, The Seven Year Slip is a story about finding yourself when and where you least expect it, and not being afraid to chase after what you want. If I could give this book 100 stars, I would. But 5 will have to do.
