Bizarre is the only way I could describe this.
Meant for a young audience, but I highly doubt they'd even understand what's going on.
But keeping in mind how old this book is and how heavily recommended, it wasn't all that bad.
Once you get introduced to the weird characters, you get used to their wonky names. Has a sweet ending.
PS. Damn the Disney movie has a star cast!

First half of the book was pretty interesting with how it introduced the setting and characters, but the second half kind of stalled with pretty predictable good vs evil narrative.

I was surprised by this book. An easy read on the surface for sure, but a book with actually a lot of depth. This was my first time reading it, but it definitely leaves me with the impression that there is so much more to be discovered on each re-read. I'll have to add it to my collection so I can do just that.

I enjoy the undertones of what makes true heroes of everyone: faith; belief in our strengths and understanding our weaknesses; relying on others for what we cannot do ourselves; perseverance; courage in the face of the unknown; not being afraid of being afraid; and ultimately realizing there is something on the other side of that fear that is worth retrieving.

And the reminder that, really, all you need is love.

I didn’t read this when I was younger because I didn’t like fantasy.
Turns out I still don’t like fantasy.

This book was wonderful and spoke to me on a personal level many times. I can understand how this book can be hard to follow and I must confess I did not get it the first time I tried to read it. I say if you did not enjoy it your first time, try reading it again. You may be surprised.
