To be honest whenever I read a blurb after reading one of his books I'm always like huh, that's what happened, but I managed to get some enjoyment out of my own interpretation despite apparently not fully grasping what is going on lol
The plot centers around a girl Sierva María who is bitten by a rabid dog and the community decides she is possessed by a demon. She is locked up in a convent and a priest is given the task to save her. He becomes infatuated and obsessed with Sierva María.
Near the end of the book is a series of scenes of the two of them hanging out secretly in her cell kissing and professing their love to each other. The writing was rich and beautiful which I was not at all able to enjoy because it was a relationship between an adult and a minor. I didn't feel like the book particularly critiqued the priest for being a paedophile or justified why it was necessary for the plot - she could have easily been a young woman to a similar effect.
