When people ask me for book suggestions, this book is on my short list of easy suggestions. I continually am amazed that it's not more well known, as this book seems perfect to be a cult hit. Hilarious and well enough written to be a quick read, I've yet to find someone who didn't enjoy it after I gave it to them (I think I've gone through about 3 copies despite having only read it once, just because I let people borrow it so often.)

Doesn't live up to the tagline on the cover that says "A.C. Weisbecker outgonzos Hunter S. Thompson", but definitly fun enough to get carried away with. Who really can say no to Quantum Physics, drugs, hallucination-level exploits, footnotes, and bananas?!

"Different editions of us live in many different worlds... and all of them are real."

TW: homophobia, drugs abuse, alcohol abuse, racism

Actual rating: 3.5 ⭐️

Look, I'm not gonna lie. This book was entertaining and funny; and that is why it got the rating it got.
I read it incredibly quickly and I have to also admit that I chuckled because of some scenes.
It definitely had its problematic content/sentences (look at the TW and you can get a hint of what I mean) and sometimes it can be a bit too much but it wasn't bad.

The narrating voice is at times unbearable: the main character was disgustingly vain and full of himself - I'll give you that. He thought he was the best thing after sliced bread and I honestly couldn't disagree more. But his cockyness was ridiculous in a good way: I giggled out loud multiple times, if I have to be honest. I wanted to punch him in the face - that's for sure - but I also had fun.
He stereotyped literally everybody he met and felt he was almost always in the right (which he very rarely was, tbh).

But the humor is there and it is funny. I mean, who would have thought about mixing bandidos, guns, drugs, alcohol and physics? Not me, that's for sure. And the most shocking thing is that the concoction worked!

Overall I wouldn't say I'd recommend it to everybody - because some sentences and way people are depicted were just bad and slightly problematic - but if you're interested in the story, pick it up.
It flies by in a very enjoyable way and it is entertaining AF.

"By the way: As you will likely soon find out, convoluted, ridiculous chains of cause and effect are what the fucking book is about."

Based on the reviews about this book, I decided to check it out. There is an Internet site that has the first 4 chapters online, so I read a couple of the chapters and could not stop laughing. So I bought the book. Then I read the rest. This book is not bad by any means, but it is hampered by Weisbecker's inside jokes and heavy handed humor. A little subtlety really does go a long way, but I don't think Weisbecker knows that. The last few chapters read like one of Hunter S. Thompson's articles and that's not necessarily a complement. The story just takes huge leaps in logic that are hard to reconcile. I would recommend this book to people who are sci-fi fans or love Monty Python, but the rest of you may want to check it out before buying.

So so nearly worth 5 stars! I read this is a student and thought it was the best thing ever. Re-read it recently and it wasn't quite as good, but still a proper laugh.
