A compelling, unnerving story, with prickly flawed characters and interesting twists. I would have trimmed the narrative a bit--fewer "spooky" POV sections, but this is a tiny quibble.

TL;DR:

The villain is a fucked up incestuous family--there are no ghosts here, except for ghosts of generational trauma and abuse. Poor Gillian. I did enjoy Evi and Harry -- a well-matched pair who get mired in circumstances and sometimes that is how it goes.
