Takes a while to come together and honestly, like Dune the movie, it became much more enjoyable after I read the Wikipedia plot summary so I could anchor the experience bc some of the world building was not coming together at the beginning. But it’s really moving and wonderful when it does start to click.

Okay, this definitely does deserve the hype

I am not a fan of apocalypse stories but I kept seeing so many rave reviews of this and was craving some heavy world building so gave it a shot. Very glad I did; excited to continue the series!

Mostly fine

Well-written with compelling characters and a truly impressive example of world-building, this novel never quite gels. The author chooses to tell the story through multiple timelines and viewpoints but struggles to hold it together. There are a set if reveals that are supposed to be twists but are telegraphed pages or even chapters in advance. Still worth the read though.
