Updating my review because its been a few years and I finally being honest with myself. .

The majority of this book was amazing. Until it comes to the end and everything is done and dusted in a page. I would have loved a ending where we could see the aftermath of the battle and I was actually really disappointed when that didn't happen.

Also every relationship is confirmed except the queer one. And the author, when questioned about the queer relationship, has neither denied or confirmed it. Now that I am older, I see the problem in this and just why? In YA, there is no problem with explicitly representing queer characters (that I know of), so why are Bear and Declan not confirmed?

I also was disappointed with the trials trope. Like come on, we've had enough of that.

Vardaesia is the perfect ending to the Medoran Chronicles. I love the world that Lynette Noni created and hopefully can be transported there again!

Even the jokes about this being the Alex show couldn't save it. It really was the Alex show.
Also, it's frustrating when people write gay people ambiguously. "Are they gay or are they best friends?" Bloody pick one and don't treat your audience like a bunch of idiots

This is officially my favourite book of this series. Just amazing.

the world-building, the characters the plot, as always just perfect

The Tia Aurans, vardaesia, its all so beautiful, and by the way the first quote just *chefs kiss*

"The sky was falling. Millions of stars streaked across the horizon, like tears weeping in the midnight void."

The gates, the tests, the group, the characters, just everything

and the grand finale. what an amazing end to the series. this book really does love to rip your heart out, tear it into pieces, stamp it to the ground, and then casually put it back. I will not recover from this book lmao

Overall in the series, I love the images it gives me. its all just so magical and beautiful, I could spend LIFETIMES looking at the scenery, and I would still be in awe.

What else can I say but 5 stars

Don't fear the shadows, make the shadows fear you...

I can't believe it's over! It's been a while since I've read a YA fantasy series and this quickly became an all time favourite.

* Lynette Noni pulls no pulls no punches - the shock I felt when the revelation about Blink came out, watching Alex grieve Niyx and all her other losses... ouch!
* The found family element in this book was absolutely awesome. The sense of trust and community was just so palpable and Declan's speech in the last trial destroyed me.
* Vardaesia! Some real hunger games shit!
* Kaiden and Alex. OMG OMG OMG. New book boyfriend for sure. These two where perfect for each other and that first kiss was unbeatable.
* The ending was literally perfect
