Wow. This series was SO good. The characters, the plot, the TWISTS. Ugh can’t wait to read CB’s other books.

I don't line the finishing plot and the ending, I had to force myself to read it and I wasn't exited to.
I am not a fan of tisannahs and maxs relationship. Don't know why.

One of my favorite series of the year. So good. Loved the complexity of the characters. Except Nura. Nura sucks

This was a satisfying conclusion to an epic story.

I found myself aching for Caduan and Aafe, truly desperate to see them both redeemed and healed, and to wanted to see them explore their love for each other even more. I was more invested in that than anything else. Thus, I am pretty broken-hearted that they had to dip into forbidden magic to have the bit of stolen time they had. Caduan is the ultimate “I will tear apart the foundations of the world for you” love interest, literally. I feel very conflicted about his life…such tragedy, to such vision, to beautiful creation, to desperation…it can’t have all been fear and loss. And yet he unknowingly sacrificed himself and so much of the good he created for the one he loved. His actions are what terrified Nura enough to succumb to her corruption, and caused devastation for the slave rebellion as well. I love him, but his actions were so devastating for so many. It’s hard even now for me to know whether he was good or evil, a hero or villain.

I feel similarly about Aafe.

The ultimate evil in the story is the corrupting combination of too much power and too much fear. It was excruciating how many times people betrayed one another for more power, or out of fear. Our heroes experience fear and are very powerful, but they value liberation and peace. They fight FOR those things instead of only fighting AGAINST what they fear.

Ultimately, this is a beautiful ending for a complex and harrowing story. I felt it went long, especially in the third installment…and as I said, I felt truly torn about Caduan and Aafe, feeling their story was more tragic than I wanted in the end. I love them. I believe they were good, and corrupted by evils they should never have had to endure. I’m glad they were willing to be heroes in the end, but I hated that they had to pay the ultimate price for it. I wanted them to live. That being said, the better world we get for everyone else, is truly satisfying and hard won.

This one will stick with me.
