Really good book. I really enjoy the zombie chase scene. But then the mummices came in with religion and stuff so that is why it ain’t a 5

I am on the fence, the idea is so good.. why are zombies mindless monsters, because the brain can't function without oxygen and gets damaged when you die. They kinda lost me at the point
Spoiler where a bogbody still has a brain, that functions still, takes it a bit far (not in the least because bogs might preserve but not like that. Some bogs preserve the outside but make the bones jelly OR bogs that calcify the bones but take off all other tissue..)

More info about the energy that connects them all would also be interesting, what is it, how does it work? Something that makes it more believable on the 'suspended disbelieve'. But maybe that's in the other books?

great zombie series. Kinda of a new take on the genre, like the idea that the reason zombies are "mindless" is because when they die the brain is getting any oxygen. Keep yourself on a respirator at the moment you turn and you get to keep your mental faculties. ...and a few surprises.

Where do i even begin with this review?

I have to say i was slightly hesitant to read this, considering the multitude of negative reviews i have read for this, and the other 2 books in the series. But when i finally gave in and began reading it, i was hooked instantly. The entire concept of a zombie with the ability to think and speak like a normal human being, was very inventive and intriguing to me. The first half of this book played like a dark, unnerving film in my head as i was reading it, and i thought to myself 'Man, those people who said this book sucked, didn't know what they were talking about.'

And then things started to fall apart.

The originally exciting concept of a functioning zombie, spirals into the absurd when the whole 'mystical' element involving an ancient druid, and re-animated mummies came into play. The actual ending of the book was confusing and disjointed and left me more than a little bit pissed off.

I plan on reading the subsequent books in the trilogy ~ [b:Monster Nation|44184|Monster|Walter Dean Myers|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/512SAJET6EL._SL75_.jpg|1386643] & [b:Monster Planet|1128434|The Last Wish (The Witcher)|Andrzej Sapkowski|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1181224890s/1128434.jpg|2293675], if for no other reason than in the hopes that Wellington's ability to follow through with a story, improves in the long run.

Zombie fiction! I love the zombies...I liked the first half of this quite a bit. First 2/3 even. Ending third was a bit ridiculous (although I am talking about a zombie novel here so a little ridiculous might be a pre-req).

Group of rag tags take a boat from Africa to NY to get medicine and then just try to survive the millions of walking dead that populate the city. Lots of violence--you have to kill these bastard zombies after all before they turn you into the undead!

This is part one of a trilogy (I'm not keen on the trilogy as a whole) but I think I'll just stop at part one.

While the story was well-written, I have mixed feelings about smart zombies, let alone magical connections that let the smart ones control the dumb hungry ones. Also the idea that a higher power created the zombie apocalypse as punishment on man for not acting well doesn't sit right. I mean, no matter what you do or don't believe, I find it hard to believe that the gods would punish everyone, since some people (especially the children) are innocents who are trying their best. Now if they were saying it was deity that's main purpose was evil....

I can't really say much more than this was really fun and inventive. It may be the start of a trilogy, but it works as a stand-alone too. If you want a fun romp, check it out.
