gigi 3*: I feel bad for her, imo she only said yes due to the familial pressure and the fact that this was the only male figure in her life and she didn't want their relationship ruined :<
The cat like 1 ig: i dont blame her for being jealous of the cat lmao

I had no sense of the older women in Gigi’s life being Upper class Courtesans. I thought all their concerns were class issues. But the darker issues around the older uncle courting the teen Gigi came through loud and clear. I loved the writing. The dialogue and characters were incredible and I’m definitely reading more by Colette.

Interesting as a window into 1930s/40s French society, in some ways very modern and in other ways not.

The first the story of a teenage girl growing up, and her characterful family members

The second the story of a man and his cat, whom he loves, and his new wife, whom he doesn't.
