As someone who hasn't run for years, and likely never will again, I was surprised at how relevant I found this book. It helped to recontextualise some of the advice I've been given about writing and habits over the years, and I really appreciated Murakami's honest approach to writing in general.
The translation was crisp, Gabriel used interesting workarounds and compound words when the English language failed to live up to the task, but never in a way that came across and showy or overt.

No falla nunca.

I really like memoirs about people who do not-team sports.

a simple dedicated life from a complex man. Life had been built around disciplines of running and writing. I admire and have a affinity with his approach to life. I'm not sure we are correct but it gives us direction and purpose.

UGH. Didn't like. Great points about writing and running, very discombobulated. Not a fan.

Poorly written, and explains a lot of the strange attitudes behind people that do endurance sports and make it their identity in this way. It’s not morally superior. I preferred Once Upon a Runner.

I'm a reader and a runner. This is a great author but the book read like a novice writer.

I connected when I read the synopsis. Running is a form of meditation, and it helps my writing. I found the book interesting in terms of similarity of, and intersection of, these interests. It is short and sweet, perfect for a glimpse into a similarly inclined person. Besides this, I have not read his books and feel ambivalent about the writing style.

Exceptionally good telling of the physical and mental challenges that come along with being an amateur extreme athlete (on occasion). I can relate to the honest failings and triumphs.
