You Slay Me
3 Stars

On her first job as a courier, Aisling Grey finds herself out of her depths in Paris when she discovers that her client has been the victim of an apparent demonic ritual. As she is exposed to the world of supernaturals around us, Aisling learns that she is a Guardian as well as a Wyvern's mate - the only problem is that the man with whom she feels an intense attraction is also a thief and her prime suspect for murder.

A cute, light and fluffy read.

Aisling is a likeable heroine well aware of her faults of which there are many. She has got to be one of the most TSTL heroines to ever disgrace the pages of a novel. She thinks and does the most ridiculous things and is then surprised when they go wrong!

Although the love interest, Drake Verio, is certainly sexy, there is an underlying sleaziness to his actions and comments. Moreover, despite the intense chemistry that he shares with Aisling, there is no real emotional connection between the two which undermines the romance.

The mystery is better with a couple of really surprising twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, and the real highlight of the book are the secondary characters, especially Aisling's sidekick, Jim the canine demon whose snarky one liners steal the show.

In sum, this book requires a healthy suspension of disbelief as it is necessary to put aside all logic and reason to accept the characters and events. Nevertheless, anyone looking for humorous respite from heavier works will no doubt enjoy this one.

While I will continue with the series, Aisling can only be taken in small doses so it will have to be when I'm in the right mood.

Aisling Grey had a lot of bad luck in her life. After her divorce, somehow she has to pay the alimony to her ex-husband. It does not unfortunately mean that she is filthy rich. Quite contrary she has to suck-up-to her uncle and work for him as a courier, just to make the ends meet. She gets her first big assignment - delivering golden medieval dragon statue to client in Paris, but... (and trust me when Aisling is concerned there will be a lot of buts...) Client is dead. Gorgeous hunk with green eyes steals the statue from her. She is accused for murder. And then things really start to get worse.
Aisling is my favorite type of heroine. She is confident. She does not freak out or panic, although she will meet dragons, evil mages, wiccans, demons and other things she did not even dream that exist. She always has some brilliant idea how to solve problems. And it so fun reading how her ideas back-fire. :)

I love this series; they are funny and full of adventure. I'm not a huge romance reader, but I loved these books because of the different places it occurs in, the humor and the adventure that are tied into it. If you want to hear about Demon lords, not all evil ones, dragons, wiccans, you got it right here.

Our main character is sent to deliver a statue to a woman who is found murdered in an unusual style, with a hotty hunk also at the scene of the crime. The two begin a battle of wit and sexual tension to find out who killed her and clear the name of Aisling.

First in a series about Aisling Grey, Guardian of Hell and Wyvern’s mate. Could be an interesting series, but this was not Macalister’s best.

I had a great time reading this. Jim is just the best!

I liked Aisling. She got a little tiresome at times with her cluelessness. But..... JIM!!! And Drake was a bit obvious and stupid.... But.... JIM!!! I loved Jim! Without him the book would be barely tolerable. I think... or maybe not.

A literary masterpiece this is not, but it’s worth a couple of hours of fun. I felt pretty good about where Aisling landed when everything was said and done so I’m actually not sure if I want to continue the series. I might, somewhere down the line, when I crave a dose of JIM! But I won’t throw my self into the pits of Amazon to retrieve the next book any time soon.

I really enjoyed this book. Aisling Grey is a courier who gets herself caught up in a world of magic, gorgeous thieving dragons and a underground underworld in Paris that she never dreamed existed.

I really enjoyed reading this one. The characters are a little zany and have some entertaining banter. I liked the ideas and how they all gelled together in the story.

I liked all the different forms of magical creature (dragons, wiccans, demons etc.) that were incorporated into the story. They all managed to co-exist in a way that made sense to me reading it. And I love books set in Europe so this was another fantastic thing in the book's favour. I'm glad I finally got around to buying the first book in this series - I've had the second one sitting on my shelves for a few years and now that I've finished You Slay Me I can start reading it.

This was a romance novel gifted to me by a family friend (because I love dragons and urban fantasy). It's murder mystery plot is surrounded by the pure fluff of it's absurd romance story, and while I'm sure the humor and tone would resonate with others, I find it didn't entirely hit the mark for me. However, the side characters were a joy to watch throughout the story, and I honestly liked them more than I liked Drake and Aisling. Though, I think I like most things better than Drake, arrogant man love interest just isn't my jazz.

The book is at it's best when it's being a fantasy murder mystery with Aisling and her demon dog Jim and the taxi driver. Those are the best parts of the book, I almost wish it wasn't a romance and we could've cut out more of the Drake parts.

I really like this series although I get a little irritated with the main character for being so impulsive and the fact that NO ONE seems to tell her the things she needs to know.
