I enjoyed this book. It is not often that I read historical romances anymore. Not because I don't like this genre as I used to read them all the time. With this book, I liked how I was easily able to form a connection with the characters and story. Meg is not the shy wallflower that you might expect from these types of books. She does not need a hero like Hart to save her. Yet, she is not so strong that she is immune to Hart's charms. Although, when it came to Hart, I like that he was not ignorant or pompous. He was kind.

However, Meg and Hart were not the only stars of this book. Hart's younger, sister, Sarah and Duchess Lucy Hunt were great as well. They helped provide entertainment. Lucy being older spoke her mind. She seemed to be not cut from the same cloth as the rest of high society. Sarah is Meg's best friend and confidant.

Than there is the chemistry between Meg and Hart. It was there and it was real. I like that they shared a history together of having kissed before that no one else knew about. They made a good couple. Easy reading.

Read this straight! I love this series but it's getting a bit where I'm not liking Lucy and her meddling as much as I used too. This one, it felt like a betrayal more than helping.

Meg is Hart's sisters best friend, she's been in love with Hart for a long time and the sister knows this and she tells her he'd be bad for her. Meg is poor and is treated like trash by her parents. Her parents suck. She only has 3 gowns she'd used for the past few seasons and she does not like to accept charity.

When she finds out Hart is planning on a bride search this season, she accepts Lucy's help to get him notice her.

Of course, it being a Lucy scheme, it goes a little too far, but dang it kept it interesting :)

This was just how I like my HR! I read it a day :D Sure the not communication thing was somewhat annoying at the end, just shout it out girl. Damn it.

Hart is a rogue, but come on, aren't they always ;) He wants to marry some sensible, nice, good ton woman with lots of money. Not that he needs it.

Meg is poor and owns 3 dresses. Sure she may be of the same class, but...yup poor as a church mouse and a spinster cos who cares about the poor girl who always wears the same dress. But she IS besties with Hart's sis, and she has been in love with him for years.

And now he needs a wife and she wants to catch him. Let's the games begin. Aye, you know how it goes, of course he will fancy her, but he needs a better wife. And of course there will be some drama at the end. But I liked that the road there was sweet and it was fun to read.

It did make me want to read the rest in the series and see if they have the same tone.

I enjoyed it :)

This Romeo and Juliet retelling is about Meg who has been in love with Hart since she was 16 years old and she's just found out from her bestfriend, his sister, that this is the year he will find a bride. She knows she has no chance, being from a scandalous family and without a dowry but she enlists the help of her friend Lucy who lives for matchmaking schemes, her one stipulation being she wants him to love her not be trapped into marriage with her.
Hart notices but doesn't immediately recognize the beauty in gold across the ballroom until his sister tells him it's Meg, the woman he's been avoiding in public and in his own head since he accidently kissed her a year ago. He asks her to dance, on his sister's urging, and winds up kissing her again that same night and of course nothing goes as planned.
This author writes extremely readable books with likeable or interesting characters.

Hart and Meg. I don't know why but I really, really love these brother's friend that I've always been in love with stories. It works out so well here. The characters think they know so much about each other and then learn more along the way. The complications from the mother were a nice little curveball. Definitely enjoyed!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher.

I have never been a Romeo and Juliet lover so my expectations for this book weren’t as high as the other books in the series so I was pleasantly surprised that’s a I enjoyed it as much as I did. It wasn’t my favorite out of the series but I loved Meg so much that some of the things that probably could have been disappointing to me weren’t. Meg is smart and funny and wonderful. Hart’s lucky to have her. Hart wasn’t my favorite of heroes but I loved his relationship with Meg that seemed to be building itself off of friendship on his part and his relationship with Sarah. Hart was kind and funny and right as any rogue at times but sometimes I also wanted to yell at him because it can be so stubborn. The romance wasnt as strong as Bowman’s other books and this time Lucy’s plot was a lot more unsettling for me at times. Usually I find Lucy’s plots hilarious and entertaining but this plot wasn’t my favorite of hers. I wasn’t sure what to expect for the reasons the families hated each other so when I found out, it didn’t seem as much of a hurtle as I expected- though I loved that no matter what Sarah and Megs friendship could withstand anything. I’m a sucker for solid female friendships and that was a shining wonderful thing in this book. Overall, I really enjoyed the book for what it was but like most Romeo and Juliet style books, some of the parts fell a bit flat plot wise even though the characters were lovable and amazing for me. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Bowman!

I couldn't put it down! There are so many characters to love, twists and schemes to keep you from putting it down. I loved that I never knew what was coming or how things would play out. The scandal with both sets of parents was unexpected and explained a lot of things. Lucy is favorite because I never knew what she was going to say or do. I loved the battle between the two of them after the wedding.

Meg deserved happiness and love. I loved her from the start because she saw the good in everyone and was determined. She was so sweet and caring. I loved how her friends had told her what to do and that she didn't think twice about it.

Hart was scared to death of marriage for good reason. I loved him because he had no problem telling people off or making a scene when needed. He battled with himself over everything, but his heart won.

Meg is in love with Hart, her best friend's brother. To make him notice her, she schemes with Lucy. Some scenarios were unbelievable but funny. An okayish read.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.
