Stayed up until 1:13 to finish this so that’ll tell you something! I love Vasya as a protagonist - she is strong and kind and emotional. She is a fully-fledged person and I’m excited to continue her story.

I loved this book! Such rich and vibrant folklore is in good hands.

There were elements of this book that I really enjoyed, but overall it was just a slog to get through. The first chapter gave the best vibe, I really felt like I was safe and warm near a stove in the midst of a harsh Russian winter. It was all down hill from there.

The story drags, the characters are one dimensional, and it felt like the author was trying to tell about 8 different stories. I will give them kudos for the world building but it couldn't save the book for me.

I cannot believe there are still 2 more books in this series, I will not be reading them.
