I enjoyed this book about one crafter’s journey through life.  One chapter was eerily similar to my own life!  Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing yet.

I loved the beginning and the style/layout of the essays from memoir-style stories to little crafting quips. However, I did find that once I got about 100 pages to the end the whole things started to feel a bit repetitive. But lovely storytelling overall.

I was really moved by a couple of these essays, but I think they lost some of their impact being sandwiched between listicles. I hated the lists so much I skipped the final one entirely; probably worse on audiobook than seeing them in print but I know I’d have been annoyed reading a print version too. As a collection, it kind of lacked cohesion beyond the themes of crafting and relationships, with the result that I felt like I was reading a blog more than a book. Overall, it felt like it wanted and deserved to be more than it was- there’s funny, poignant material here but not enough to really sink your teeth into, and too broken up by trite nonsense.

In this book the writer looks back on her life and the connection it has with yarn, knitting and crafts. The chapters can be read apart as they are short stories/essays.

Every once in awhile you read a book at the exact right time in your life - the level of humor is just what you were looking for, the sentences crafted just so, the content very real and honest and relatable. This was one of those very special books for me. What a nice reminder the openness that exists within the beautiful community of crafters. And that it’s okay to have unfinished projects laying all over the house. Unknowingly Alanna encouraged me to pick up my sweater that had been sitting untouched for awhile - mistakes are okay and I‘ll proceed to make many more throughout the beautiful process.
