4.5. Okay, so, I kind of loved this? But, also........ none of this is what I thought the story was. At all. I thought this was supposed to be, like, the pinnacle of romance and that Heathcliff was supposed to be some tragic, sexy figure and *bursts out laughing* What book are people reading to get that? Honestly, despite how Heathcliff is described, I can't help but picture him as a crabby old man since he gives off incredible crabby old man energy. This whole book is just massively fucked up and impulsive people doing massively fucked up and impulsive things. It's remarkably unpleasant and yet somehow also totally enthralling? I loved the atmosphere of it and the just pure chaotic energy dripping off of Heathcliff, like, this dude is frigging fascinating. (More forever, please, honestly.) Dig up his would-be lover? Check. Actively wander around hoping her ghost will dropkick his heart some more? Check check. Kidnap her daughter and force her to marry his son to get some nebulous revenge against his rival for Catherine's affections, check check check. Experience profound ennui to the point where revenge no longer even seems that cool? Check check check check. Hallucinate Catherine's ghost and then die? Fucking check, broh. Look at this spiteful, violent, mopey king go.

Don’t know how to rate it yet. I loooovveee the writing and the dialogue love Nelly and that’s it. Everyone else except Nelly, and sometimes Isabella and Cathy, were insufferable. Heathcliff is a villain like a proper villain. And that’s really it. It also took me forever to read. Took a sick day and 5-6 hours to read 150 pages damn. So probably 3.5 though the prose is amazing.

This book is weird and depressing! But, it is incredibly well written, especially if you remember when it was published. I didn’t like any of the characters. Everything was overly dramatic (talk about much ado over nothing, lol) but I can see why it is an interesting piece of literature to study. I’m glad I read it but it felt like a slog most of the time. The audiobook narration was excellent which made it passibly enjoyable.

como não vou amar completamente um livro que tenha a frase “não sei de que as nossas almas são feitas, mas a dele e a minha são iguais.”?
