Another decent entry into the Deltora Quest saga, City of the Rats explores a level of character complexity seldom seen in children's fiction in the character of Tom. The city of Noradz and its Ra-Kacharz, while bordering on the absurd, is a creative diversion that provides some genuine stakes and growth for the three main leads, development which continues right through to the climax. Once again, the climax itself is on the shorter side, but not as egregiously as the previous entry, and the denouement earns its brevity.

less rousing than some of the other deltora books but that’s okay.

this book says it’s about rats and it certainly is—over 10000+ rats in this book!!! good rat count

these MCs are out here giving horror movie characters runs for their money tho—shopkeep says don’t take the right path, they IMMEDIATELY take the right path.  kind of an L.
