I enjoyed the background into Fred Johnson quite a bit. Seeing this moment that he is most known for and also how and why he changed allegiences was really fun. It was very short, and following the time-jumpy plotline was trickier than I wanted it to be. But follow it I did, and ultimately it was a really fun story told with reveals that only this kind of time-jump structure could allow.

I'm very glad I read [b:Leviathan Wakes|8855321|Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse, #1)|James S.A. Corey|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1411013134l/8855321._SY75_.jpg|13730452] before reading this. If you haven't, go ahead. I'll wait...

In this prequel/sequel, we find out why Fred is now OPA despite being very, very against them at the pinnacle of his career. I can't say much because there's no reason to spoil anything for those who haven't read it, and it's short enough that I would. Suffice it to say, the reason makes sense. Sad, desperate sense.
