Almost everyone is terrible at making decisions, why? No one has ever taught people how to make decisions. This is especially true at work. Whether it’s the guy that’s always telling you why something can’t be done, or they guy that’s always got great ideas, or the other guy who’s afraid to make a decision. The lack of structure for decision making holds us back from our own success. We can get out of our own way with the six thinking hats. Not only has this book helped me to think differently about how I coach clients though decision making, my hope is that my clients and work colleagues will read this book so we can have a shared language and be more effective in our work. It’s a short and easy book to read and instantly applicable.

Fácil lectura, corto pero bien organizado. Ofrece un método interesante para entender el pensamiento, el cual es complejo. Al conocer estas técnicas, podemos entendernos a nosotros mismos y la manera cómo pensamos. Además me parece que es una herramienta útil para mi caso en donde facilito reuniones o workshops

Seems like a well thought out system for decision making and thinking, I almost feel like I know it works already due to the authors cockiness and assurance that soon the entire world will be using his idioms in day to day life. The 6 thinking hats says system seems extremely beneficial and I plan to try it out in my work however, I believe I only needed to read the summary of each hat to understand it. As a read this is tedious and dull at times but as a system I think it will prove to be fantastic hence the 4 stars.
I’m most intrigued by what de bono talks about under the green hat and plan to read his books on lateral thinking to get further insight into this.
I’d advise reading the 6 one page summaries of each hat first then deciding if it’s worth reading the other 170 pages.

This is a very good idea I think but you have to explain it to everyone in your group for this to work. But if everyone had experience with this book I could see it being very helpful in any group style think tank.

The real test is when I can use this in practice, but I liked the approach of focusing thinking to help make better decisions. As a regular facilitator and person responsible for helping others through their thinking process, I recognise many approaches as “green hat” or “black hat” and so on. My main concern is how to introduce this approach in a real environment. Training everyone seems impractical, also a quick explanation at the start of a meeting may not do it justice. I’m going to try an increment approach but referring to different hats from time to time, with the goal of things rubbing off gradually. I’ll also be testing it with my own thinking. I hope it will help to reduce the complexity of problems I am struggling with. It’s a quick read and useful to be able to evaluate by observation how people in groups are actually thinking.

I agree with this concept of the Six Thinking Hats I just think it`s a very poorly written book. Lots of repetition of not very well communicated ideas. Gonna try and use the six thinking hats concept though.
