A nice book with an original concept: nature in the modern urban life. However, it's hardly been adapted from blog entries/columns to a book. After a while the format of "nature observation - fact of decline or recovery - call to action" becomes a broken record. The poor editing continues: "cognitive dissonance" is used at least three times in the book, and not correctly. This book needed a stronger overarching message and continuity to mellow out the stop-start nature of her observations/journal entries. I was pushing hard to get it over and done with by halfway. Otherwise, a nice book to pop in and out of, perfect for snippets on the daily city commute.

An immersive read: a collection of her writings for the Times and FT, each piece is inspired by her daily wanderings, at first in London, then in Suffolk. Beautifully observed and described, with observations on the changing face of the countryside occasioned by farming methods and climate change, this is a good book to dip into to recharge depleted batteries.
