I don't like the current cast as much as the first ones. Pioran and her unnamed lover are blatantly assholes, and I don't see any signs of them growing as people on the horizon. Fushi spends more time interacting with Gugu and Rean anyways, and they're nice enough, but they don't leave as much of an impression on me as Pomona and March did (although the new Fushi lore does mean that in a way, March will grow up physically).
It feels like now that we're hooked, Yoshitoki Oima is really slowing down the pace. Like last volume, we get a little more about what Fushi can do, but his volume hints about why Fushi is here, what's in the forest, and the hinted themes about "paradise" are too vague for me to come up with good theories. I still plan on sticking with it for the foreseeable future, but if you want something fast, this isn't for you.

I don't think there are good tags for this but basicallySpoiler
One of the main characters of this book is a child who is abandoned by his older brother at a young age and then is disfigured in an accident while protecting another character to such a point that his face is not fully shown ever again. He is rescued by an old man who then takes it upon himself to save the boy and then fill his stomach with pure alcohol so that he can try to ferment alcohol in a living human stomach. It's very weird and doesn't make sense but it is part of this book. The alcoholic stomach eventually gives this character the ability to spit fire. Don't really know where Oima got this idea from but it is very very weird.gothicmoon's review against another edition
