Sean keeps the language as simple to follow as possible. I appreciated the background on the particle accelerators, an explanation for why the search for the Higgs is important and how finding the Higgs paves the way for physics beyond the Standard Model.
I recommend this to anyone who's interested in learning more about particle physics and why particle physics is important.

It’s hard to explain how far over my head all this went. That being said the non science words were all familiar to me and as a story of humans working towards achieving… something, that was pretty interesting.

This book took me way too long to finish. Not sure if I understand particle physics yet and not sure if the author understands either. Maybe he does. Maybe no one does.

Would definitely recommend.
Mostly an incredibly easy to read book considering its topic, only gets a bit trickier at the end. I really felt I could understand fully what the author was describing, which involved things I had been aware about, and totally new ideas.
The author makes the book really entertaining to read as well, with a lot of humorous lines. (eg. "Imagine we got our hands on a secret control panel that governed all the laws of physics, and by slowly turning the dial labelled HIGGS we could decrease the value of the Higgs field in empty space from 246 GeV to any smaller number. (Note: there is no such secret panel.)")

The topic was fascinating and I love the thought that everything in the world is in perfect order, able to predict, except this one little cheeky particle. It makes me feel like there’s just a bit of magic.
For someone with no background in science though it proved quite difficult to understand some concepts at times.

This is for the non-science audience. Starts to talk about how symetries lead to the forces on page 150 however, and appendix one is okay as far as ' so what's Higgs now ? '
