Richard was a pretty terrible guy, and I can't say that I liked him all that much, but it was kind of interesting to read a story where the main character is the villain. Was also pretty obsessed with all the female characters in the play. I'm uncertain of why I just found them so interesting. I especially liked how Queen Margaret was able to kill basically everyone just by speaking it into existence. Girly was manifesting before it was popular what a trend setter. I also enjoyed all the insults in this play. I never knew there were so many ways to offend someone. I get why one would enjoy Shakespeare's historical plays. Who wants to read about history when you can see it dramatized on stage for your entertainment?

Another Shakespeare class book- I really enjoyed all the murder and violence in this history. Richard III feels much more engaging to me and his inner ramblings are some of the best bits. I did struggle with the wide cast of characters. Once the two sides were clearly divided it became a bit easier for me.
I also think my reading and overall feelings were tainted by the fact that I had to rush through over half the book.

Not the first time I've read this play, but I'm finding that I still have complicated feelings about it. The aggressive ableism was a bit difficult to get through, especially as a disabled person, but the fact that it exists opens up the opportunity for a conversation about historical ableism, the Tudor Myth regarding Richard III, physiognomy, etc.--especially good for me, as I'm thinking about writing about disability and Shakespeare for my thesis.
