It was enjoyable, although I think some plot points took away from the message of the first book. I think I prefer THT as a standalone. I did appreciate the exploration into new aspects of Gileadean society, although I would have enjoyed seeing different demographics represented. All the protagonists are white women.

"As they say, history does not repeat itself, but it rhymes"

Margaret Atwood does it again with this thrilling sequel to The Handmaid's Tale.

I have no words to express how much I loved this book. The chopping between testaments from Aunt Lydia, Jade, and Agnes was wonderfully done and really invested me in the tales from Gilead and the lives of the women withing it.

The plot twists were epic and had me reeling, and the whole book from start to finish was gripping, chilling, and dastardly dark. Showing the true power of man's reach and the possibilities of what could happen if the world we live in is allowed to mimic history.

A well-deserved five star rating for such an exceptional book.

I think the actual plot was pretty good, solid. How the book was written, though, the writing style, did not seem like a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale. It didn't have the same stiff writing. I'm unsure if that's [stiff] how Atwood writes, or if that was to help set the scene for The Handmaid's Tale. The tone was different, but that may have been intentional, as Agnes grew up in Gilead + June/Offred did not.

I guessed pretty much all of the plot/plot "twists". This made it a little annoying to get thru, because I already pretty much knew what was going to happen. I have a theory that it was written so obviously, because it was so obvious that Trump was going to fuck shit up. This was reinforced by allusions to the small and subtle, but horrible changes leading up to Gilead taking over the USA.
