Fun fun fun. As always, love my babies Emily and Wendell, so glad
that we got to see his kingdom, in ireland

I did dislike Rose, he was so annoying and rude to Emily and he should have had more growth. I also wish Emily had some growth in her acceptance of who she is and not being a social creature, like let's move on

I don't know what it is about Emily Wilde. Just like the first book, this sequel drew me in so easily. I read it in two sittings because I just wanted to spend more time with these characters rather than do something else.

Everything that was so good about Encyclopaedia of Faeries is expanded on here. Emily and Wendell's relationship is more of a focus—their banter is cute, there are aww-worthy moments, but also times where Emily struggles with what a future for them might look like. Wendell, of course, doesn't really help with any of that, either, but the way he cares about Emily is heartwarmingly adorable.

We get introduced to a couple of new characters as well, which means more time watching Emily learn how to interact with people. There are plenty of nasty faeries with nasty surprises, once again making for a very compelling story, and I can't wait to see what Emily and Wendell will get up to next.

I never thought I’d see the day that a sequel to a 5 star book would get another 5 star rating from me but this one handedly delivers everything I loved from the first one with some rich additions to the cast.  Emily’s niece Ariadne adds a dash of youthful enthusiasm while Rose is an excellent begrudging colleague and a perfect foil for Emily’s stubbornness. The returning critters were just as delightful and I found myself tearing up a little when Emily described how Shadow’s movement was more labored as he grows older.

I am anxiously awaiting the third book now for the deeper dive into Faerie now that Emily will be under Wendell’s protection and better able to recall and recount events.

This book series is for anyone who loves faerie lore, academia, and the assurance that all will be well, as we are reading a journal, not following as events happen in real time.
