After reading the first 3 books in this series, I was hoping to see the development of writing style by the author. This book is it.
A gripping and interesting tale.

My least favorite Maisie Dobbs book so far. She was snotty and morose for too much of the book, and the characters involved in her case never really resonated with me. The last couple of chapters also felt rushed, like the author had too much to explain at the end so had to fit it all in. It's logical I'll like some stories in a series more than others, though, so I'm continuing with the books.

I read these books for fun historical mysteries, so I was unprepared for how depressing this one was. That being said, I love the setting and time period, and the way Hitler Germany factored in the art mystery.

This one moved much better for me than the last, just a great mystery set in a fascinating time period.

Maisie gets more complex as each book goes by. I guessed what was the theme of the main artwork was, so felt proud to have unraveled part of the mystery.

Mindless mystery-solving awesomeness about an entirely different era...when people lost their homes to foreclosure and died because they couldn't afford medical care and mourned a recent and utterly pointless war.

So...maybe not such a different era at all, on second thought. Probably these would have been more of a mindless escapist thing three years ago. I still like them, but maybe I like even my "fun" reading political.
