I understand how this book was revolutionary for its time, but now it just reads as racist and homophobic.

God, I had a hard time rating this. It would have been a five-star read if things didn’t get weird there toward the end (iykyk…). Regardless I love Rita Mae Brown’s writing style, and the fact that this was written over 50 years ago now is pretty badass. Ahead of its  time in many ways, but of course a difficult read it times too. 4/5

Easy to read and easy to get attached to the protagonist (despite them being a very flawed person). Aside from the casual putting down of butches, I definitely recommend it. Provides a lot of reflection on heteronormativity, gender, and the way people can get trapped into roles and relationships that they don’t really want. Really good book.
