This was pretty good, a little repetitive and slow burning, but really good. There are obvious similarities to Stephen King's "IT", with the "children fighting evil as adults" trope. Even some of the ways Ronald chooses his wording displays his homage to Mr. King. Ronald Malfi, in my opinion, proudly wears his influence on his sleeve.
The characters are pretty well thought out, and I really feel the true hero and star of this book has got to be Dennis. I liked him. I don't like Jamie, for obvious reasons. But I think the brilliance of Ronald Malfi's character building for Jamie is quite on purpose...? You decide.
The first book I read by Ronald Malfi was [b:Snow|6969112|Snow|Ronald Malfi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348019267l/6969112._SY75_.jpg|7208243] back when it was first published in 2010 from the incredibly awesome but unfortunately now defunct Leisure Books (OOHHH how I miss those cheesy covers and drippy sappy horror!! I mean it, I am a huge fan of Leisure Books). While I do recall what the story was about and liking it, I do not remember noticing his influences. I can say, however, that his style has grown, and it shows here in this story.
A bit of a warning, however. There are a few parts that may offend some "sensitive" readers, so beware.
Being the second book I've read by Ronald Malfi, it surely will not be the last!
