I probably should have known a book explicitly about old growth trees would be 1) sad and 2) dense but I didn't know it would be this sad or this dense! Every chapter repeats a similar story: colonists/scientists/capitalists discover super old trees; they cut nearly all of them down; people realize this is bad; it's too late to fix anything. He tries to sound positive towards the end but it's mostly pretty sad!!

I chose this book as my introduction to the world of Botany. I think it was too early.

Still, it was informative, and the cultural aspects accompanying the elderflora were interesting to read, especially the more contemporary ones.

Trees are fascinating, in all their aspects.

Really enjoyed this! Felt some of the sections were more successful than others but really fascinating look into elderflora, megaflora, ideas around time, and human relationships to the environment
