This was fun but also it read like Stephanie Garber was a 7-year-old who overheard someone use the word “bitch” at Thanksgiving and she went around screaming that word for the rest of the holiday.

The writing in the book got progressively worse as it went, and it ultimately read more like Wattpad fluff fanfiction than an intense, action-packed conclusion to a number one New York Times bestselling series.

SpoilerAnd on the subject of its conclusion, if you’re looking for a resolution, buckle up, because there isn’t any. Jack’s personality changes entirely in the last ~20 pages, and the magic system Stephanie Garber has worked tirelessly to create and uphold across 5 books is thrown out the window with no reason except to keep from hindering the romance any longer. But honestly, can we really expect anything better when both potential love interests sexually assaulted Evangeline in TBONA???

As terrible as this book was from a purely technical and plot standpoint, it was not without its charms. While I do not condone Stephanie Garber’s decision to throw craft out the window for the sake of romance, the romance was still a lot of fun to read and I can honestly say that despite how terribly written this book was, I had a blast reading it.
