Fun little book about Pandemonius (aka Demon) the half-god son of Pan who is whisked off to Olympus to care for the mythical creatures there. They are mortal on Earth but immortal in Olympus and the bulk of the book centers around the labors of Heracles where he beats up, dismembers, skins, or nearly kills mythical beast after mythical beast who then end up in the stables where Demon has to figure out how to nurse them back to health. The animal husbandry is fun for the kids (especially my daughter who talks about being a vet) and the inside jokes with Greek and Roman myth kept me engaged. We’ll be requesting the rest of the series from the library and working our way through them.

Very different from my earlier entry. This book is the first in the Beasts of Olympus series. Pandemonious (Demon) is a son of the god, Pan, whom he has never met. That is until one day when his dad shows up and offers him a job as the Beast Keeper of the gods. Not really having a choic, Demon accepts the offer. He soon makes friends with the nymphs, dryads, Hephaestus, and the beasts. Can he cure the Hydra that was beheaded by Hercules before Hera sends him Tartarus?
This was a cute series for my early readers along the lines of Dragonslayer Academy and Secrets of Droon. Looks like there are already 3 books in the series.

Fun characters. Like how myths were weaved into story. Likable. Had it all --- happy, sad, frustrated, suspense. Good for third grade and fourth grade. Interest may be harder for fifth grade but a high exile -- for higher.

So many modifiers and meaningless sentences. I get that things like this are churned out pretty fast, but they still employ editors, right?
