VERY hard to read, not because it was difficult, but because it was so dark. If you want to read a book that makes you hate cis-men and small southern towns, I have the one for you. It's GRAPHIC and violent, and relentless.

It's a good story, though.

My only other complaint is how wordy Slaughter tends to be. She describes everything in such detail and it feels unnecessary. Describing every movement taken to check an email on a phone is too much. This book could've used a good culling of extra prose.

Well written with characters I liked. But man oh man was it a hard book to get through. What these characters went through is just awful and really challenging to read about, especially since the writing was so good. Almost too good, I felt I lived through the traumatic events. Some of the worst scenes are revisited/relived multiple times, I almost couldn't take it anymore. Really compelling characters though, which kept me going. Will be looking at more books by this author but not sure I can recommend this particular one given the traumatic plot.

She’s had better books than this. Main characters were easy to sympathize with, but they were still hard to like. Too many layers of story going on at once, and the whole thing that kicked it off was so disgusting. Unfortunately, that first scene got revisited three more times, and it got worse each time.

I feel like this story started out strong and then fizzled out. The story eventually all comes together, but I felt like it took so long to deal with the Kelly Wilson plot, and the characters dealing with their backstory sometimes felt disjointed. It’s well written and I wanted to know more as I read, but there’s something about it that stopped me from really loving it.
