This is the most gruesome traumatic story I've ever read.
There was no need to retell the trauma 3x with increasing detail. My mental health did not need this. How this book has an over 4 star rating is shocking and disappointing. I'm giving this 2 stars because the writing is good, but the logic is faulty at worst and unlikely at best, and the traumatic repetition made me deeply dislike the book.

Karin Slaughter is a sacred name in my household. Always excellent, gripping, horrific, human storytelling. This had me laughing, crying, and trying not to vomit from the gorier details all in one day.

Not a typical Slaughter book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Although there were no big twists throughout, the beginning chapters are in typical Slaughter fashion - fast paced, brutal and gut wrenching. I had to put it down after the first chapter just to digest what had happened.

This isn't a thriller novel, but i5mt does cover some pretty graphic stuff - make sure to check your trigger warnings before diving in.

I liked pretty girls more. I loved pretty girls actually. The first two chapters BOOM captivating as heck but then it slows down soooooo much and let me be clear, this is a family drama as much as it is a horror book. Is this one even horror? Anyway I liked the characters at first but the longer the book went on the more I grew tired of them. I didn’t see the twist coming at allllllllll and I loved that so much and I enjoyed it for the most part it just dragged a little in the middle. I’m fairly well read for a 25 year old person and I probably looked up 50+ words I had never read before it was ridiculous and I understand that usually sam was using these words bc she’s such a genius but geez. Anyway not my fav slaughter but I’m excited for the next one. And I will not be reading the prequel.
