There are 6 different perspectives. The chapters are relatively short. So about every 10 or so pages the perspective changes. I enjoy multiple perspectives but this is a lot for me. Also the font is small. Like smaller than normal.  Which tends to cause me headaches. I didn’t have any issues with the writing style or the story at all. I think the story is intriguing and I am going to try again another time. Its just not for me right now.

3 stars. There was definitely potential here but it ultimately never did come together for me. The writing was fine, you can tell it’s a debut and needs a bit of polishing. The plot was intriguing but I think it loses steam about halfway through. Also, I didn’t like nor care for any of the characters. They all felt the same to me and I didn’t find any of them particularly likable and that didn’t help at all. I’m giving it three stars for the potential and the fact that I didn’t hate it. This was fine but I’m curious to see where Isabelle goes from here and I hope her next book will be more of hit for me.

There’s nothing really wrong with this book, it just didn’t grab me at all. Typically I would rate books like this three stars, because it IS well written and the story is fine. I have it two stars just because I personally vibes with it so little that it took me more than a month to read, and I typically read books this size in a matter of days. I think there are some things that either were not explained or I missed in my struggle to finish the book. I would still recommend you give it a try if you read the cover and think it’s interesting. I think I just didn’t match well with it.

I don’t have many original thoughts as I echo other reviewers. This book had way too many POVs and it hindered the book rather than added to it. Unfortunately, Iris, Logan, and Matthew had the most distinct voices for me (and I kept mixing up Thalia and Jaliah). That being said, the boys POVs weren’t necessary and we could have just stuck to the girls.

Also, the story felt a bit disjointed at times leaving me to wonder if I’d skipped pages. The magic system didn’t make too much sense to me BUT it was probably the one thing I could accept as “there” and ignore in favor of the mystery and the girls.

I also believe that even if this wasn’t the strongest book, a TV adaptation of the story would work wonderfully. The ensemble cast would be perfect.

All of that being said, and even with a 3.25 star rating, I am invested in book 2 and will be checking it out after release.
