Preface: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was really unique. It's basically a series of horror vignettes with intertwining characters, and the back drop of a deadly "game" two mystery characters are playing. It's grim and dark and very spooky. You find yourself genuinely feeling for the characters and mourning their losses. Even some of the nastier characters are sympathetic because they're well-rounded - yes, they're horrible people, but they have their own reasons and motivations and little touches that make them human. It's very well-done, and I enjoyed the reveal of one of our game-players and their clever way of overturning things.

My one gripe is that parts of the narrative can be hard to follow - basically a lot of the story has an illogical, nightmareish quality to it. This is 100% intentional, as a lot of the novel centers around the idea of dreams, but I still found it a smidge difficult to follow at times, especially the climax.

Overall, though, this was a very enjoyable read, though I would recommend taking it a little at a time and not bingeing it to give each section enough time to breathe.
