La meg starte med coveret på boka. Helt nydelig fargevalg.

i genuinely have no memory of what happened in this book. none. no idea. i’m sure it was fine, and i have a vague sense that it wasn’t awful but i literally could not tell you a thing about this

As a borderline young adult thriller, this book really impressed me. Elizabeth Klehfoth packed a ton of plot and background story into this novel, and somehow it mostly all worked. The central story of a secret prep-school society and the missing mother of one of its members is pretty outrageous, but most of the character's motivations were entirely believable to me.
This book isn't classified as a young adult title, and I think that's only because the narration switches from teenage Charlie to both of her parents, all at different points in the timeline. Most of the book's weakness lies in the chapters narrated by Charlie's parents though, because I don't think we get to know them well enough to fully understand what happened between them.
I'll admit to being attracted to the book initially as a quick, breezy read because of its stunning cover and boarding-school setting, but this novel goes much deeper than the description suggests. A lot of the themes ended up being extremely relevant given recent current events involving privileged people trying to cover up their sordid past in order to get and stay ahead.

Not a real deep plot, but a quick enjoyable read. I liked the way Charlie grew and I appreciated the chapters given to each of her parents.

This would have been a much faster read had I not spent so much time trying to figure out which prep school this was (I think it's actually a combination of three).

As far as plots go, this is pretty standard teen stuff, standard, that is, if you belong to a certain group of students attending certain schools. There's a lot of "where are the adults" here, as most schools I know are (now, not back when I was a student in the 70s) paying closer attention to students' goings and comings. The semi-ripped from the headlines subplots were the best ones.

Nothing about this is like the secret history, at least not the entertaining parts of Donna Tartt’s novel. Basically privileged kids with neither the spice nor the pretentiousness.

I’m basic and will always enjoy a good murder mystery/secret society/boarding school mashup.
