tonally, this book feels like fleabag in season one if she had an instagram addiction.
in its critique of social media and the impacts it has on our psyche this book captures an accurate reflection of the one sided reality of the images we create of ourselves and the profiles we see + how well that translates to the one sided nature of certain relationships, especially toxic ones. wrap that up with class and racial dynamics for a social commentary that feels more like your friend telling you unhinged dating stories… but switching topics every few minutes to make sure your conversation passes the bechdel test.

I liked the vignette style we were getting the story through, but there was so little character growth or plot advancement that even 200 pages felt a little redundant towards the end. Still a really cool concept though, and very funny at times!

I Am a Fan by Sheena Patel is a gripping story about obsession, desire, and power. The narrator is fixated on two people: a married man she’s involved with, who is quite manipulative and has several affairs, and a successful enigmatic woman she admires from a distance, who is a former lover of the man she is involved in. Written with a blunt and unapologetic style, it explores the messy and intense emotions that come with wanting something—or someone—you can’t fully have and how these feelings can be amplified through social media.
